Tree Care in Big Bend

Big Bend takes its name from the sweeping curve where the Fox River changes course, and the river still shapes almost everything about tree care here. The village grew up as a lumber and sawmill town along a maple-lined stretch of the Fox, and a lot of that riverfront canopy is still standing. Trees along the corridor live with saturated ground for weeks at a time. When the Fox rises, and it does, roots sit in waterlogged soil, banks erode, and trees start to lean as the ground gives out beneath them. Some of that flood damage shows up right away. A lot of it, like root rot and loosened bark, doesn’t surface until months later, which is why a tree that looks fine after high water still deserves a closer look.

The village also borders the Vernon Marsh Wildlife Area, and the older properties along that edge tend to carry mature oaks and black walnuts that need careful, informed management. Oak wilt is a real concern across this part of Waukesha County, and since it spreads fastest when oaks are cut or pruned from April through July, timing that work correctly protects the trees you want to keep. Emerald ash borer is the other constant. It’s confirmed statewide now, so any ash near the river or the marsh is worth evaluating for treatment or removal.

One thing worth knowing before you cut: properties close to the Fox River or the Vernon Marsh can fall under floodplain and shoreland rules, so it’s smart to confirm with the Village and the county before removing trees near the water. Our crews handle removals, pruning, storm and flood cleanup, planting, and mulching throughout Big Bend and the surrounding Fox River communities, with rigging built for soft riverbank ground and trees close to homes and outbuildings.
